Well, now Facebook Messenger lets you enable an extra layer of security. The Messenger app itself can be locked down when you close it, and its requiring you to use Face ID or Touch ID to open it. Facebook Messenger is introducing a new feature, technically called App Lock, for iPhone and iPad users.
